Defending Texas...

We accept that our president served in the Texas Air National Guard defending Texas from Mexican invasion, but what about our other elected leaders?

I was surprised to learn that neither Dick Cheney, Bill Frist, Karl Rove, Tom Delay, Trent Lott, Jeb Bush, or even Rush Limbaugh have ever served in the military. The new Hampshire Gazette has awarded those politicians the honorable title of "Chickenhawks".

I for one am tired of the media and the public in general equating military service with good leadership abilities. In terms of an elected official, I am more interested in his future ideas for our country, not his past military record.

Granted, what with the current situation in Iraq, I would feel more comfortable if more of our officials did have military experience. That said, I think it's ridiculous to deem anyone who hasn't served in the military an idiot... just as it would be ridiculous to deem every past member of the military a hero.

Well said... anybody know how I could have done this the first time... ahem... Glen.

As I said to him, you have to admit that this website was a little partisan. I mean... the majority of the list was Republicans who hadn't served. What about the people that they didn't talk about on the Democratic side, such as our "esteemed" former President, Bill Clinton. It was pretty common knowledge that he dodged the draft. But they kinda dressed that up a little on this website, and on the same page, kinda dressed down Colin Powell's record of service - which I find rather annoying.

Eh, all this to say that I agree with whoever posted before, and wish I could figure out how to comment on this journal, not that I'd do it all the time, but I just couldn't figure it out the first time.
